Following on the success of Kowiana's "Kimchi & Marmite" conferences in 2008 and 2009 where we established Kowi (Kiwi-Korean) identity and discovered Kowis in action, we are proud to present the third conference "Enquiring Kowis - Where are you from?" "Where are you from?" is one of the most common questions that Kowis are asked. Kowis are often asked about where we "originally" come from. As Kowis, we live in New Zealand but our roots and heritage are based in Korea. It is time to reflect upon, rediscover and understand the roots of where we are from. Through the conference Kowiana hopes to bridge the gap of diversity through empowering young Kowis to understand where they come from which will help them to embrace other cultures better. The conference will include inspirational speakers and interactive workshops to facilitate discussions about why we should understand and keep our root and how it helps to embrace other cultures within New Zealand community. |
