Membership Frequently Asked Questions

On this page:

What is Membership?

Membership with Kowiana is an annual service we provide to bring people together, and to help us achieve the goals of our organisation.
Becoming a Member of Kowiana allows you to participate in a number of Kowiana's events, such as the Kimchi & Marmite Conference. Membership is a way we can keep in touch with you, and you can keep in touch with us. We use it to try and keep Kowi's and our unique community together, and to facilitate building friendships and helping eachother.

How do I become a Member?

Easy! Click on this link and fill out the form. Alternatively we have a paper formicon_PDF you can print out and send to us. Please note that there is a $10 membership fee to become a Kowiana Member.

What is the $10 Membership fee used for?

We are a non-profit organisation and try our very best to get sponsorship from other organisations to keep costs as low as possible to our Members. The $10 fee simply goes towards general administration costs we may incur. It also goes toward running our Kimchi & Marmite Conference, and making that possible.
It does not go to any of our executive board members or advisors, and we have to pay the Membership fee too.

How long does Membership last?

Kowiana Membership currently recurs on an annual basis. The exact dates at the moment are:

Start DateEnd Date
1 April 2010 31 March 2011

We will notify our members when the membership term is nearing an end.

How do I go about renewing Membership?

If you're already, or previously were a Member, just log in to our Membership section here. You can easily review/change your contact details, and re-apply for Membership for a new term.

I went to the 2009 conference - am I a member?

If you went to the 2009 Kimchi & Marmite Conference, it is likely that you are an unregistered member - you should have no problems logging in and renewing your membership.

Those that registered for the 2009 Kimchi & Marmite Conference automatically became a member of Kowiana for the membership term of 2009-2010. That membership term has ended, and those members will need to renew their membership for 2010-2011 term.

What does the 'Membership Status' mean?

When you apply as a Member, it may take a little while to process. The status simply denotes how far along in this process your application is. The possible statuses are:

UnregisteredYou are currently not a registered member for this term.
RegisteredThis means you've applied for membership, but have yet to pay the $10 fee (or notify us you have paid).
ConfirmedThis means you've confirmed your payment with us, but we have yet to receive/accept it.
MemberYour application is complete.

You will need to be considered a full Member to take part in some of the events we offer to Members.

Are all the events you advertise only open to Kowiana Members?

No! A lot of the events we advertise on the main page of our website are not hosted or organised by Kowiana, and therefore Membership isn't required to participate.
For the events that we host however, such as the Kimchi & Marmite Conference, Membership is required. This is to make organising easier on us, and so we can predict numbers etc. We do encourage becoming a member and participating to help build and positively affect our community.

Do I have to be a Member to be a Kowi Volunteer?

No! Of course not. We're always looking for keen volunteers, sponsorship, and donations. If you'd like to volunteer with us, please click here.
