I was born in New Zealand and have been conducting research on issues relating to tourism and regional economic development for over 15 years. I completed my MA in Geography at Auckland University in 1985 and my thesis focused on the economic impact of tourism in the Cook Islands.

The New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO manages and provides advice to the New Zealand government on UNESCO matters, while acting as the connection between UNESCO and individuals and organisations within New Zealand. Within the Secretariat of the National Commission, Hayden has responsibility for managing the relationship between New Zealand and UNESCO in the areas of Education, Youth and Human Rights.
