Soo Jin Shin

Role: President

Soo Jin recently completed her BCom (Honours) at the University of Auckland. Double majoring in Accounting and Information Systems, she enjoys exploring both academic fields.

 

For the past two years, she was involved in Kowiana as a Co-Sponsorship Director and a Treasurer. Soo Jin believes that Kowiana has a vision to achieve and happy to contribute to Kowiana’s future.

 

Soo Jin is hoping to reach out to more Kowis and support them to have confidence in their unique identity and who they are. Also, she hopes Kowis to ‘bridge the gap in diversity through unity’.

 
Stacey Nam

Role: Vice President

Stacey is a freelance translator, editor and writing tutor. An English and comparative literature graduate, Stacey has a passion for stories.

 

The story of Kowis is astonishingly new with much potential. Stacey is excited to be involved with the next step in Kowiana’s story for 2011 and wishes to challenge Kowiana’s involvement with the community; to get alongside Kowis in school and the work place, and to be more active in multicultural New Zealand.

 

Stacey, who had unpleasant Saturdays attending Korean School as a child, recently went to study the Korean language for a year and fell in love with Korea. She looks forward to a busy and interesting year with Kowiana and the talented new executive board.

 
Yeaha Hyun

Role: Treasurer

Yeaha(Rachel) Hyun has recently completed her BCom (Hons) in Accounting at the University of Auckland. She also has finished her BCom degree with double major in Accounting and Commercial Law/Taxation.

 

She enjoys travelling and has been to several countries in Asia and Europe. She has gained valuable experience and understanding of other cultures while travelling around many places. She would like to contribute them to Kowiana and help Kowis celebrate the cultural diversity while recognising who they are. She is also greatly interested in promoting Korean traditional art and dance.

 

Yeaha believes that Kowiana would help Kowis to seek their own identity as well as to embrace the beauty of the multiculturalism in New Zealand. She more than welcomes the opportunity to work with Kowiana as the treasurer this year.

 
Joseph Kim

Role: Membership Director

Joseph is a Victoria University of Wellington graduate in law and commerce, admitted to the Bar in 2008 and is a solicitor at Morrison Kent.


Having emigrated with his parents from Korea to New Zealand in 1993, like many immigrants, Joseph calls New Zealand home and is proud of his Korean heritage.


Joseph joins Kowiana keen to explore the concept of being a ‘Kowi’ and desirous to make 2011 an exciting and unforgettable year for Kowiana members!

 
Jinny Han

Role: Programmes Director

Jinny is currently a 3rd year BTech student at the University of Auckland, specialising in Biotechnology.


She has previously worked as the Co-Programmes director of Kowiana in 2009 and is hoping to contribute again,with better preparation and more experience.


Her love for the two countries, Korea and New Zealand, is the main motivation for being involved in Kowiana and she hopes to reach out to many Kowis out there and share the same pride in their unique cultural identity.

 
Saeha Hyun

 

Role: Programmes Director

Saeha is a third year student studying Bachelor of Pharmacy at University of Auckland.


Saeha has lived in New Zealand for the past 8 years. As a co-programmes director, she feels that it is really an honour to be involved in such a meaningful and supportive organization like Kowiana that seeks for and celebrates the unique identity of being a Korean-New Zealander.


Saeha hopes that through Kowiana, any Kowis who experience similar issues and difficulties would find a valuable clue that will lighten up their future.

 

 
Ji Eun Park

Role: Co-Sponsorship Director

 

Ji Eun is a first year Master of Audiology student after undertaking BSc - Biomedical Science at the UoA.

 

Ji Eun took a gap year during her final year of high school to go on an exchange to Germany.  After her return, she has been involved with organisations within the university such as the dessert club and was the president of the Red Cross student network for two years. And through various part time jobs she has been through, she hopes her experiences can contribute to Kowiana.

 

Ji Eun also is a volunteer at the Waitakere Hospital and has been a teacher at the Korean school since 2005. She loves to teach and interact with people especially children.

 

Having lived in NZ for most her life she understands the conflict of dual identity that immigrants face sometimes and hopes to help Kowis embrace both cultures.

 
Marie Alison Ly

Role: Co-Sponsorship Director

Marie has a BA (double major: Sociology and English) from Auckland University, a CELTA qualification and is doing postgraduate studies in Public Policy.

 

As a NZ-born and raised kiwi-asian and with 2 years working and living experience in Korea, Marie understands the beauty and perplexities of multiculturalism.

 

Through Kowiana, she hopes more Kowis and others alike are able to openly accept, embrace and express their bicultural identity, and to promote a multiculturally diverse society.

 

Marie is looking forward to working with Kowiana and Ji-eun as Co-sponsorship Director this year.

 
Jae Moon Jung

 

Role: Promotions Director

 

Hi, I am a recent graduate from the University of Auckland. I have BCom/BA degree and my major is accounting, finance and Chinese. I have worked in a local graphic design company as a marketing intern and also have internship experience with PwC India based in Kolkata. I hope I can contribute my knowledge and skills from the university and work experience to help develop Kowiana. Thank you

 

 

 
Romano Isaia

Role: Promotions Director

 

I reckon it is great chance to be in Kowiana and through Kowiana I would like to help lots of Koreans who are finding hard as being multicultural. Also I am hoping to establish a healthy cultural life to young people in New Zealand by giving them variety chances with conferences and other wholesome activities. : )

 

 
Jimmy Shin

Role: Co-IT Director

Jimmy (Soo Yong) is currently in his third year of Bachelor of Computing and Information Sciences at AUT, majoring in Networks & Security.

He went to intermediate school in Korea and high school in New Zealand. He found difficulties to live in two different cultures. Because of that, he understands problems of being Korean and New Zealander at the same time. He wants help others to share their diffi-culties and enjoy their lives.

 
Seung-wook Lee

Role: Co-IT Director

Seung-wook (Ryan) is currently studying Computer Systems Engineering at University of Auckland and has been the class representative for 2 consecutive years.

Seung-wook knows how to appreciate and accept different cultures. He has come to a point where his values in life have not only been shaped by Korean teachings but also New Zealand teachings.

Seung-wook believes that his experience and knowledge can help other Kowis have mutual respect for both Korean and Kiwi cultures.
